Dish is Second Harvest Heartland’s premier gala, which plays a crucial role in our mission to end hunger. The 20th annual event is planned for Saturday, October 14 at The Depot in Minneapolis.
We invite you to be a special part of this memorable event by volunteering your time for one or more shifts. Volunteers at Dish will offer support in a variety of ways, from venue setup and silent auction organization to guest engagement and merchandise packing.
Volunteering for the Minnesota Homeless Study is a unique volunteer opportunity centered on the experiences of the people being interviewed. The participation of adults and youth experiencing homelessness gives voice and substance to the reality of homelessness in our state and helps planners, funders, and advocates in their efforts to find solutions.
By volunteering as an interviewer, you can shine a light on homelessness in Minnesota. Volunteer for a 4-hour shift on Thursday, October 26.
Join Second Harvest Heartland for a Community Conversation on Food Justice Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 5-7pm at Forgotten Star Brewing in Fridley. You can find us on the back patio! The event is open to the entire community - invite your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to this conversation. Kids and pups welcome.

The morning started off with networking, free coffee and donuts and in person conversation which was welcomed by all. The group then started their volunteer experience by learning more about hunger and the needs in MN. Did you know 1 in 11 kids don’t have regular access to the nutrition needed to thrive?

Compass facilitates meaningful volunteer opportunities for business professionals committed to transforming the communities where they live and work. Build your professional network, chart a path to nonprofit board service, and gain invaluable experience and career development while giving back. Compass matches volunteer business professionals with selected nonprofits for pro bono consulting projects. Projects start in late January and run through May 2023.
Providing mentorship to young people in our community is one of the most important ways to volunteer. Local nonprofit BestPrep’s program, Cloud Coach, impacted more than 2,000 students in Minneapolis and St. Paul with the help of 2,000 volunteers during the 2021-2022 school year.
Lead Volunteer Opportunities: 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance
HandsOn Twin Cities is looking for a group of motivated, service-oriented volunteers to help orchestrate a large-scale hunger relief event on Monday, 9/12/22. This important event is one of many signature 9/11 Day-supported projects being held in observance of the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Other event locations include New York City, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, St. Louis, San Francisco, and others.
It's time to jump into action! Greater Twin Cities United Way is bringing together community changemakers for our annual Action Day initiative to provide backpacks full of school supplies for 50,000 local students!
Each year, more than 100,000 greater Twin Cities students return to school without essential school supplies to support their work in the classroom.

Volunteer Opportunities: Meals on Wheels Volunteers
Brighten someone’s day with a meal and a smile!
Join Greater Twin Cities United Way for Flavors of Our Community – a food initiative focused on increasing access to culturally specific food items at local food shelves.
Our community is home to many cultures with a variety of meaningful foods and flavors. It is important that our neighbors experiencing food insecurity have access to foods and spices that are familiar and significant to their culture. In partnership with local nonprofits, Greater Twin Cities United Way developed 7 pantry packs.
Feed My Starving Children was open for volunteering at all eight of its permanent packing facilities where over 1900 volunteers packed meals for 2 hours on this MLK Day of Service. These volunteers were able to pack enough food to provide a FMSC meal a day for a year to over 1,100 children in countries like Nicaragua, Uganda and Haiti.
